Exercise and Positivity
Over the years of teaching exercise, I have noticed how uplifted my clients and participants seem to appear during and post exercise or meditation.
This wonderful uplifting feeling arises from the release of endorphins and positive chemicals flooding though the brain and body, releasing tension.
This flood of chemicals is rebalancing dance both physically and emotionally.
For me, it is this release of positivity that keeps me returning to my regular activity whether it be running or yoga. Once you have found it and recognised the benefits it becomes food for your soul, body and mind.
When we are young we tend to be drawn to the very Yang like exercises, that make us feel happy and free, such as running and high impact sports. However, as we get older, we still seek the Yang ( we need them too) but we also veer more towards the more Yin form ( gentle yoga, mindful walking, Qigong/Tia Chi, mediation).
We become more reflective and mindful with our exercises and routines. We become educated about our bodies and its limitations, we notice the link between mental and physical, we embrace the slower accuracy or positions and realization that it doesn’t have to be a fast activity or intense to be effective.
We also allow ourselves to accept what is , as we become more wise to the greater world and less afraid of of how we may appear to others.
When we meditate we notice the positive effects by slowing down our breath and heart rate - thus in turn forcing the monkey mind to also slow down. As we practice with our breathwork we begin to notice how simple and effective it is and how did we not notice this before? Yes it is so natural and free.
This is all free medicine for your mind and soul.
The Yin and the Yang will always be there and we need both to form a true balance in our lives whether it be from exercise or meditation.
Simply notice and listen inward and your body will tell you. Once you start to notice it, this is the beginning of another whole journey…positivity awaits.
