Believe in the process??
Believe in the Process?
But what do they mean?
When we commence a new habit or routine we are often motivated to do so because we have an end goal.
Maybe the doctor has told us we need to lose weight or strengthen our back muscles, or we simply want to be able to run further without being out of breath.
Hence, we become goal orientated. The end goal is our motivator.
However, what I realised on my personal journey, is that it is not just the end goal that we should focus on, but also and more importantly ‘'the process’'.
As we turn up each day or week to participate in our new routine, whether it be running or yoga, we need to identify not just our end goal , but also how we feel whilst participating in this moment. Are we feeling lighter and happier in our practice or is it a chore?
The awareness and presence of the action is the ‘'mortar’’ that will hold the wall of practice in place.
This ‘mortar’' can help us maintain our adherence to keep ‘turning up’' and participating in this process.
If we find the practice too much of a ‘'chore’' we encourage further negative thought patterns associated to the new habit or routine.
Maybe, it would be more proactive to rethink the end goal and thus the process can continue in a more positive atmosphere.
There will always be more goals - bigger and smaller to achieve.
But I think it is more prudent to try to be more mindful of ‘'the process’' and believe that it is an accumulation of each step that is important. The journey can become more enlightening than the goal!
